Each May, Community Living Month provides an opportunity to say thank you to the hundreds of people who make it possible for Community Living Mississauga to continue offering a wide range of residential, social and employment supports.
And never has a thank you been more deserved than this year.
During the past year, the employees and volunteers at Community Living Mississauga have found new and innovative ways to support people to be active members of their communities, despite the ongoing pandemic and the resulting lockdowns.
Thanks to enhanced safety standards, use of new technology and creative thinking by support teams, the more than 3000 people supported by Community Living Mississauga have been able to stay connected to their friends, families and communities.
The online friendships that have been made will be able to develop into in-person friendships. People who explored places virtually during the lockdown will soon be able to visit them in person. The new skills and supports that were developed over the past year will be used long into the future…even after all lockdowns have been lifted.
Despite a very challenging year, we have a lot to celebrate thanks to our amazing employees and volunteers. On Thursday, May 6, Mississauga’s Civic Centre Clock Tower and Toronto’s CN Tower, will be lit up in green and blue as a thank you to everyone associated with Community Living organizations and to celebrate the achievements of the Community Living movement.
In recognition of Community Living Month, we will be highlighting various areas throughout our organization all month. So, check back weekly to learn about the amazing people who make up Community Living Mississauga.
