The Peel Regional Police put a call out to community partners in Peel Region in late November, 2022 to come together to form a working partnership designed to improve interactions between police and people who have an intellectual disability, in particular autism.

The response was overwhelming and the end result is the Peel Autism Collaborative. This group has been meeting once per month to develop a working strategy to address public and policing concerns.

On Monday May 1st, the Peel Autism Collaborative and Peel Regional Police launched their strategy document to the public. This document now forms the working basis of the Collaborative moving forward. Four key pillars have been identified in the document:

  • Training and Education
  • Community Engagement
  • Collaborative Service Delivery
  • System Enhancements

The Peel Autism Collaborative will continue to meet monthly to address each identified pillar.  Community Living Mississauga is proud and excited to be a part of this forward thinking strategy to develop a strengthened working relationship with Peel Regional Police.
