On Friday, November 18th, employees from teams throughout Community Living Mississauga braved a cold morning for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new bench installed at JD Saddington Park in Port Credit.

The bench is dedicated to the employees of Community Living Mississauga in recognition of their efforts to keep the people they supported safe and engaged during the COVID pandemic.

“The pandemic brought out the best in many people—people showed compassion and empathy and offered a helping hand to others during this extraordinary time,” said Laura Sluce, President of the Board of Directors at Community Living Mississauga. “The dedication, commitment and courage shown by the employees of Community Living Mississauga had such a profound impact on the success of the organization and they deserve our deepest gratitude and admiration. It is in recognition of the effort put forth by the employees of Community Living Mississauga that this bench is dedicated.”

Keith Tansley, Executive Director at Community Living Mississauga, joined Laura in thanking the employees of Community Living Mississauga for all they have done during the COVID pandemic.

“When we first locked down, way back in March of 2020, we resolved that the safety of the people we support and the safety of our employees would be our top priority as COVID changed the way we support people,” said Keith. “Despite so many barriers and restrictions imposed to keep people safe, our employees managed to discover different opportunities and implemented many creative alternatives for the people they support.”

Following the remarks, Keith and Laura were joined by OPSEU Local 251 Vice-President, Vanessa Fera, who cut the ribbon to formally dedicate the bench.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for this very special ceremony!
