In 1971, on their way to play golf, Iggy Kaneff and a friend stopped by a church so his friend could visit one of his children. They went to the basement where Community Living Mississauga was running a program for children who had an intellectual disability.

The basement was dark and damp and many of the windows needed replacing. Iggy immediately asked his friend “can’t we do something to help the children?”

Thus began the annual Kaneff Charitable Golf Tournament – an event which nearly 50 years and $1,000,000 later, continues to support Community Living Mississauga!

“He has done so much for our community and was part of the fabric of giving back, in his attitude and by encouraging others to give as well,” said Keith Tansley, Executive Director of Community Living Mississauga. “He brought together trades people and business people to make our community stronger and connected in a mission to help people.”

In addition to the support from their golf tournament, Iggy and his wife Didi also served as honourary chairs of Community Living Mississauga’s annual Tribute Dinner.

“The passing of Dr. Kaneff is a great loss to Community Living Mississauga,” said Tansley. “We have lost an advocate, a long-time supporter and a friend.”

Community Living Mississauga sends its condolences to Didi as well as daughters Anna-Maria and Kristina.
