Community Living Mississauga is currently recruiting for the following summer volunteer opportunities.

SUMMER TEEN ACTIVITY PROGRAM (STAP)

Working under the supervision of the Summer Support Staff and Supervisors, volunteers are responsible for providing support to youth between the ages of 13-21, while they take part in a number of different recreational activities in the community. The goal of the Summer Teen Activity Program (STAP) is to work toward inclusion, by providing opportunity for teens to be actively involved in their community, to try new things, and to develop relationships with their peers.

Responsibilities: The STAP volunteer is responsible for assisting the teens in participating in schedule activities, encouraging teens to take an active role in the planning process, and supporting the teens in further developing their social skills through interactions with peers and other members of the community.

Requirements: Volunteers may be required to provide assistance in feeding, and changing for swimming. All volunteers must have a completed vulnerable sector police record check, attend a volunteer orientation/training session and be comfortable going into the water for swimming. Volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years of age.

Commitment: A minimum of 40 hours of program volunteering (1 full week), plus 2.5 hour volunteer orientation/training session (training schedule to be announced).

Hours of Program: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm throughout July and August

Location: Groups meet at either South Common Community Centre or Mississauga Valley Community Centre each morning.

COMMUNITY SPORTS LEAGUE

Community Sports League is a softball league for individuals who have an intellectual disability over the age of 13. The league is run by volunteers with the support of Community Living Mississauga.

Responsibilities: Volunteers support individuals to participate fully in weekly baseball games, maintain the flow of the game and encourage players to further develop their baseball skills. On a rotating schedule, volunteers are responsible for collecting and bringing equipment for their team.

Requirements: Volunteers should have at least a working knowledge of softball rules and be able to actively participate in the game. Volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years of age. . All volunteers must have a completed vulnerable sector police record check and attend a volunteer orientation/training session.

Commitment: A commitment of the full season is required. Two hours every Thursday evening from mid-May to end of August. Plus, two coaching clinics on April 22nd and April 29th and a two hour volunteer training on May 15th. *It is understood that one or two games might be missed due to summer vacation.

Hours of Program: Thursday evenings from May 15th- August 21st, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Location: All games are played behind South Common Community Centre.
