As part of Ontario’s developmental services transformation, the Ministry of Community and Social Services held consultations with individuals, families and service providers. During these consultations, the need for tools to help adults with developmental disabilities hire their own staff was identified. In response to this need, the Ministry developed a guide for individuals on recruiting and managing their own staff. The purpose of this booklet is to provide a plain language resource that helps individuals explore the process of hiring a support worker using their own funds (e.g., employment income, direct funding program, or other sources).
