Knowledge Network

What is the Knowledge Network?

Through a unique partnership between the Mississauga Library System, Community Living Mississauga and various other community agencies, an enhanced collection of materials dealing with disability and related issues is available for use. This collection, called the Knowledge Network, includes books, journals, video recordings, audio cassettes and brochures.

Some of the topics included are advocacy, attention deficit disorder, autism, developing life skills, lifestyle planning, parent and family issues and various syndromes.

Why use the Knowledge Network

The Knowledge Network can help you find the materials you are looking for quickly and easily in the library. A lot of the language used in the field is not the language the library system uses to catalogue material. For example, if you were to do a database search in the library for material on the topic of "support circles" or "developing life skills", you would not find what you were looking for.

There are two ways to find Knowledge Network material:

1. The Knowledge Network has a selection of topics listing pages that specify where to
look in the library for books on a particular topic. These pages can be found by
the Knowledge Network display on the 2nd floor of the Mississauga Central Library.

2. Knowledge Network material can be accessed through the Mississauga Library
System catalogue which can be consulted on any terminal in any public library in
Mississauga or online at www.city.mississauga.on.ca/library. A complete listing
of the material in this collection can be found by using this catalogue, conducting
a search under the title Knowledge Network.

How can I access the material?

Most Knowledge Network material is housed at the Central Library but can be sent to any Mississauga Library System branch by request.

A library card for the Mississauga Library System is required and can be obtained at any branch free of charge.
