Community Living Mississauga is proud to offer teens 13 to 21 years of age a diverse and exciting community summer program that allows teens to make the most of all that the summertime has to offer.
Program staff support groups of approximately four participants to plan and participate in a variety of community activities. These activities include: sports, arts and crafts, shopping, movies, sight-seeing, special events, etc. Teens are grouped according to age, needs and where they live.
Each group meets at one of the local community centers in Mississauga. Some activities take place at the community center, while others take place within the community. Participants and staff use public transit and Transhelp to get to and from planned daily activities.
In previous summers, teens have gone to Playdium, the C.N. Tower, the C.N.E., the Science Centre, Ontario Place, the Metro Zoo, Medieval Times, Wild Water Kingdom and taken craft classes at Michael's Arts and Crafts.
The program gives teens the opportunity to develop their leisure interests, enrich their life experiences and make new friends, all while having fun. Staff assist participants to become more familiar with their community while developing new skills and independence.
Past participants have said:
- "It was the best summer of my life!"
- "I had a great time this summer!"
- "I want to go back!"
Registration Process
- Complete the Summer Teen Activity Program Registration form, including the Authorization and Level of Support section on the back.
- Ensure that the Registration form is returned along with payment (cheques may be post-dated) to Community Living Mississauga, to the attention of Mary Dillon, Community Recreation Liaison. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registrations will not be processed unless payment is enclosed. Any necessary adjustments in registration fees will be after the close of the Program.
Community Living Mississauga employs Program Supervisors, but does not have the resources to employ individual support staff for participants. Therefore, families will be required to honour a commitment to release sufficient funds from Special Services at Home or any other source of funding available to them. This funding will allow Community Living Mississauga to hire staff to provide support your son or daughter.
Complete and submit the applicable invoices which indicate what source of funding you are accessing for summer support. If you are using your own resources, submit a post-dated cheque with your registration.
If financial assistance is required, contact your Support Worker for a Financial Assistance Application. Submit the completed application form with the Summer Teen Activity Program.
*Note* Applications will be mailed to families supported by Community Living Mississauga in late February.
*Note* Transportation to and from the program site is the responsibility of the parent or guardian.
