Support Assistant - (Part Time)



Community Living Mississauga is a non-profit organization that is seeking applicants to fill the position of Part- Time Support Assistant.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

In addition the qualifications outlined below, to perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • You must have either education related to Human Services (Developmental Services Worker, Social Service Worker, Early Childhood Education or Social Work or a related University Degree in Human Services), or previous experience working or volunteering with individuals who have an intellectual disability 
  • Must be able to deal with crisis situations
  • Knowledge of the Personal Outcomes Measures
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR (Heart Saver) Training Certificate
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Must have valid driver’s G or G2 class license and access to a vehicle and the ability and willingness to provide transportation to individuals
  • Must be willing to work cooperatively within a team
  • Must be physically fit to perform the essential job duties (includes assisting with lifts and transfers, personal care and medication administration)
  • Must be able to work within a flexible daytime, evening and weekend schedule
  • Must be able to attend mandatory training program and team meetings (i.e. CPI & Health & Safety  training 30 days from hire date).

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Provide assistance to individuals with daily living as required including, but not limited to, personal care (e.g. lifting and transferring, personal hygiene), meal preparation and nutrition, housekeeping, laundry and shopping 
  • Assist in organizing and participating in leisure activities in the community including providing transportation
  • Support each individual to develop skills and assume roles which promote his/her effective participation in the community
  • Implement supports for individuals to achieve personal goals as established through individual support plans and Personal Outcome Measures
  • Administer medication as prescribed by physician
  • Record and maintain appropriate information in daily logs, individual files and related records
  • Accompany individual being supported to appointments as necessary.
